Carol Doak Nebraska Star design from the book 50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars
These stars started out as swap blocks (in 2011) for a group in the local quilt guild. The theme was Christmas and we were to use red, green and white. The red and green fabrics I chose have gold metallic designs and the white is a Fairy Frost (shiny).
I had to pull out of the swap due to my Lyme disease. Last year I pulled the blocks out and decided to finish them. They were foundation pieced, the seams did not nest, and there was excessive bulk in the centers. I spent a lot of time with the seam ripper and took the blocks apart until they were in 8 sections each. After pressing seams in different directions, the seams were able to nest, but the centers are still bulky.
I used a gold metallic Rock Candy fabric for the sashing and tried to line up the green fabrics so it appeared the sashing was laid on top. While that worked and the greens (mostly) lined up, I noticed after the entire top was put together that if you look at it from different angles, the greens are misaligned.
