12″ Chevron quilt block tutorial – From Marti Michell templates

Cut a 6 1/2″ strip of white fabric on the lengthwise grain.  Use the *Small Full Diagonal Set Triangle Ruler #8105 to cut (2) half-square triangles.

Align the bottom of the fabric strip with the 8 1/2″ line on the ruler.  Cut on the diagonal .  Reposition the ruler to trim the corners.

*The Large Full Diagonal Set Triangle Ruler #8104 can be substituted for the Small Full DSTR.

Cut a 3 1/2″ strip of white fabric on the lengthwise grain.  Use template A2 to cut (4) half-square triangles. Trim the corners.

Repeat with a strip of red fabric.  Cut (2) red half-square triangles.

Cut a 2 5/8″ strip of white fabric on the lengthwise grain.  Use the Small Full Diagonal Set Triangle Ruler #8105 to cut the diagonal stripe.

Align the bottom of the fabric strip with the 6″ line on the ruler.  Trim the diagonal edges.  Reposition the ruler to trim the corners.  Cut 2.

Repeat with a 2 5/8″ strip of red fabric.  Cut (4) red.

Unit A, 6 1/2″ unfinished; make 2

Half-square triangle, diagonal stripe, A2 half-square triangle.

Place the diagonal stripe and the A2 half-square triangle right-sides together along the shorter edge of the stripe.  Use a 1/4″ seam allowance to sew the pieces together.  Press the seam open.  Place this piece right-sides together with the white half-square triangle.  Sew along the diagonal edge using a 1/4″ seam allowance.  Press the seam open.

Unit B, 6 1/2″ unfinished; make 2

Diagonal stripes and half-square triangles.

Place the red diagonal stripe and the white A2 half-square triangle right-sides together along the shorter edge of the diagonal. Use a 1/4″ seam and sew the pieces together. Press the seam open.  Make 2.  Repeat with the white diagonal stripe and the red A2 half-square triangle.  Make 2.  Place the sections right-sides together and sew along the long diagonal.  Press the seams open.  Make 2.

With the seams pressed open and the units right-sides together, pin the fabrics where the diagonals meet. Use a 1/4″ seam to sew the units together.

Sew the B units together. Sew the A units together. Press the seams open.

Sew the rows together.  Press the seam open.
