popsicle stitching

1.  Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong-side of the (2) 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ background rectangles.  Using the photo for reference, pin one rectangle in each of the top corners of the 3″ x 4 1/2″ popsicle rectangle.  Stitch slightly to the side of the drawn line, toward the corner.  Trim the rectangle 1/4″ from the stitched line, toward the corner.  Press the seams open.

Here are two alternative popsicles . . .

Popsicle, double

Double Popsicle quilt label

Make two popsicle units and stitch the 1 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ background rectangle to either side or the middle.  As the background strip is only 1″ finished, I suggest either making the background strip wider or using a light colored fabric for the popsicle so the quilt information will be easy to read.

Popsicle, single striped

Striped popsicle quilt label

For a striped, or multi-flavor popsicle, cut (5) 1″ x 4 3/4″ strips for the bar unit.  Stitch the strips together and press the seams open.  This unit should measure 3″ x 4 1/2″ unfinished.

*Suggestion:  use the selvages from the fabric in the quilt to make the striped popsicle.

Happy Quilting!
