6″ Pumpkin quilt label tutorial

What you need:

background:

  • (2) 1 1/2″ x 2″
  • (4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″
  • (1) 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″

orange:

  • (2) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″
  • (2) 2″ x 4 1/2″

green:

  • (1) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

pieced center:

  • (2) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ of color 1
  • (2) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ of color 2

1.  Piece a 4-patch unit with color 1 and color 2

2.  Piece the stem strip using the green and (2) 1 1/2″ x 2″ background.

3.  Using the (4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ background squares; draw a line on the diagonal from corner to corner.  Place one in each top corner of the (2) 2″ x 4.5″ orange rectangles. Stitch on the line.  Trim away the outer portion 1/4″ from the sewing line.  Press the seams open.

OR use From Marti Michell template N80 to cut corner triangles and trim away the corners of the orange rectangles.

4. Sew one of these orange/background units to the stem strip.  Sew the (2) 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ orange rectangles to the 4-patch unit.

5.  Sew the other orange/background unit to the center/orange unit.

6.  Sew the two half-pumpkin pieces together.

7.  Add the 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ background piece to either side.

If you want a solid pumpkin, use a 4 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ orange rectangle and add the background corners.  Add an appliqué or embroidery face.

This label will go on my batik Rotogravure (Sampler) quilt.
